🍀[Irish Week] 4 Things you should know about Ed Sheeran's "Galway Girl"

Last year I hosted an entire week Irish themed and I wanted to repeat it this 2017 as well. There will be movies and books reviews, travel tips and a post to make you see how funny Irish people are!

Have a great Monday and enjoy this year's Irish week!

Ed Sheeran's "Galway Girl" has been one of the most played songs this past summer and I have to say I'm a fan! It has been #1 most played song on my iPod since it was released back in March!

The videoclip was released 2 months later and I was obsessed with it...first of all, the rhythm is addictive, but what I liked the most was that it was showing off the beauties of Galway (even if it was shot during nightime, but hey! still looks gooood!).

Here's to you 4 curiosities about the video and the song, enjoy!

1) The girl portraying the "Galway Girl" of the title is Saorse Ronan. Born in New York, moved back to Ireland when she was 3 years old (first in Co.Carlow and then in a city in Co.Fingal). Now she lives in New York. She has been nominated twice for the Academy Awards: in 2008 as Best Supporting Actress in Atonement and in 2016 as Best Leading Actress in Brooklyn. You may also remember her performances in Hanna, Grand Budapest Hotel and The Host.

2) There actually is no bars in Grafton street in Galway, as some people pointed out on Twitter and forums...

The Parish Priest on boards.ie
"I'm trying to figure out where this Grafton Street in Galway is that Ed Sheeran met his Galway girl"

Hesh  (@laura_session) on Twitter
"@edsheeran ain't no bar in Grafton street son"

3) The overview at the end of the video is on Galway's famous docks, just in front of the Claddagh Quay, home of the well known Irish "Claddagh" ring.

4) The Riverdance dancers, showed at some point inthe videoclip, have been choosen thanks to a viral video of themselves presenting their dance routine over Ed Sheeran' song "Shape of You"...watch it if you already haven't, they're really talented! The link HERE

That's it for today's post. I hope you liked it!
