📺Cure it with Movies/TV Series: Secretaries/Personal Assistants

Being a personal assistant could be a dream job or your worst nightmare...it mainly depends on your employer and whether or not he/she has impossible task for you to fullfil. But if you deal with it with humor and focusing on the positive aspects, nothing can be that bad! Like these women (and man) did...
MOVIES

Gosthbuster (1984) - Janine Melnitz  (2016) - Kevin

In the original first Ghostbuster movie, Janine is the only girl in the Ghostbuster group, she's careless and wears the most enormous pair of glasses I've ever seen. In the 2016 reboot we have a male secretary, played by Chris Hemsworth and he's so dumb and stupid, but also so nice to look at...and that's exactly why he got the job!

Working Girl (1988) - Tess McGill

This is some kind of 'manifesto' for working women that don't accept the status quo and what to improve themselves and to do something they're passionate about. The protagonist starts as an ordinary secretary, but manages to get to the top of her career and, after many vicissitudes, she affirms herself for what she is: much more than just a secretery.

Sabrina (1995) - Mack

Linus Larrabee secretary Mack (portrayed by a magnificent Dana Ivey) is a funny, efficient and beyond sarcastic secretary, ready to fullfil any request for Larrabee with her unique sense of humor.

The Kid (2000) - Janet

Lily Tomlin plays Bruce Willis hilarious assistent, it's her that has to deal with all his appointments and his strange behaviour from the moment his 8 year old version shows up. She's asked in the middle of the night to find out why sometimes the moon becomes a bit reddish.
Risultati immagini per disney's the kid Janet
Fun fact: Dana Ivey appears in this movie, not as a secretary, but as Bruce Willis' character's psychologist.

The Secretary (2002) - Lee Holloway
This movie has been presented during Sundace Film Festival so it's not your average "secretary-boss" love affair, but something more complicated, given the complexity of mental health of both the boss and secretary. But it's a nice story, a movie I will recommend.

The Devil wears Prada (2006) - Andrea Sachs

Probably the most famous 2nd assistant in cinema history: Andrea has to submit to Amanda Priestley's wide range of requests, mostly of them nearly impossible to achieve (read Harry Potter unpublished book) and asked with the shortes amount of infos, like "Where's the piece of paper I had in my hand yesterday morning?". And we all thought Tom Cruise had "missions impossible" to accomplish.

The Intern (2015) - Ben Whittaker

Getting bore about his retirement, a 70 years old man decides to get back to work and has to start like most of new emplyees these days: with an internship. Ben slowly becomes indispensable just by being himself and having a serene and calm attitude.

The Other Woman (2014) - Lydia

Portrayed by rap singer Nicki Minaj, Lydia is everything you DON'T want as a secretary: lazy, disinterested and self-absorbed...She's more interested in her boss personal life than doing her job. But comes up with humorous questions!
Same kind of secretary in the 2016 French movie - Up for Love (my review HERE)

Wonder Woman (2017) - Etta Candy

Filled with British humor, I actually don't know much about her (Wonder Woman movie is set to come out in theaters the 1st of June) but frome the clips and trailers one thing I'm already sure: I like her!

TV SERIES

Ugly Betty (2006/2014) - Betty Suarez
The Tv version of "Devil wears Prada" followed the adventures of a Mexican American young lady, Betty, who becomes personal assistant of Daniel Meade, chief editor of MODE, a fashion magazine. She's not pretty nor stylish, but she's smart and compassionate, plus she'll learn to assert her ideas.
Risultati immagini per ugly betty
Suits (2011) - Donna Paulsen
She's more than a simple secretary for Harvey Specter. Donna is like his partner in crime, his confidant and best friend. Just watch the clip below, it explains everything you need to know about Donna. One word to describe her? Multi-tasking! And always in killer outfits!

👗Amanda Peet vs Diane Lane

It's been a while since I posted a WWIB of an Italian brand and today we have one of the most elegant and chic designer of the entire fashion industry: Bottega Veneta!
First who wore this total white look from Bottega Veneta S/S 2017 was actress Amanda Peet while attending an event for her new show "Brockmire", back in April. She look gorgeous and simply chic with a natural make up and a tight ponytail.
Then, a few days ago, it has been actress Diane Lane who showed up with the same outfit, during the Los Angeles premiere of her latest movie "Paris Can Wait". She opted for the same style as Amanda, very simple and elegant, with soft wavy hairstyle, a simple necklace and gold bracelets completed the look.

📺Cure it with Movies: Women Driving

So the 8TH!!! Fast and Furious movie recently hit theaters and of course, I went to see it! This time the villain is no other than Charlize Theron, and in a worldwide renowned franchise based on fast cars, she doesn't drive...
There's a saying that women are less better drivers than men and, frankly, I belive is a false myth! There are people who are more skilled drivers than others and sometime these are men, sometimes women. Period!

To prove that here's my list of way too highly skilled drivers in movies...needlees to say, they're all women! Enjoy!

Audrey Tautou in The Da Vinci Code - In the scene where Professor Langdon and Sophie Neveu arrives to the American Ambassy, but police is waiting for them Sophie drives her Smart like a pro! She jumps on sidewalks, drives backwards and still no damages on the car and/or no harm for the people inside it.
Brooke Langton in The Replacements - Annabelle Farrell is the a cheerleader for the Washington Sentinels and gives a ride to the new quaterback, Shane Falco (Keanu Reeves) and while talking football she hit just a little bit the gas pedal.

Victoria Beckham in Spice World - being late for their own sold out concert, running out of time and of a bus driver, Victoria Beckham (then Adams) steps in and decides to drive Spice Girls luxurious double decker tour bus by herself. It maybe not the safest driver performance but they all arrive at the concert unharmed.

Jordana BrewsterMichelle Rodriguez, Gal Gadot and Nathalie Kelley in the Fast and Furious saga - the girls of the saga proves they have what it takes to win races (and hearts of their fellow co protagonists). From Mia Toretto and Letty Ortiz (1st movie), to Neela (3rd movie, Tokyo Drift) to Gisele (5th movie, in Rio), they all are skilled and ready to amaze with both knowledge and techiniques.

Charlize Therone in The Italian Job - joining his late father's gang to steal some gold from Steve (Edward Norton), Stella Bridger proves she's both beutiful, smart and a talented driver...she parks a MINI in a parking space after a bike leaves!
Risultati immagini per charlize theron the italian job

Sandra Bullock in Speed - wanting it or not, Annie Porter finds herself driving a bus in Los Angeles traffic and, if this isn't impressive enough already, she has to keep up to a certain speed in order to not make the bomb that's on the bus explode.

So, what's your experience with women driving? Comment if I missed some major movie female driving performances!

👗Jennifer Morrison vs Paris Hilton vs Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge

I'm a little late for this particular #WWIB, since all three these celebs wore this Self Portrait white dress during 2016 but...better late then never, I guess!
The first who wore the Self Portrait Resort 2016 collection piece has been American actress Jennifer Morrison, in January, while attending Entertainment Weekly's event before the SAG ceremony.
She opted for a wavy and messy updo and a very natural make-up!
The it was time for everyone's favourite heiress to rock it: Paris Hilton was pretty in white as she hit the amfAR's Gala red carpet back in October. Like Jennifer, Paris pulled her hair up and added some bling with a shiny hairbad. Last but not least, it's time for royals: Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, as Patron of Action on Addiction, attends the "A Street Cat Named Bob" premiere in November. She left her hair loose and added a touch of colour with red shoes.

👗Karlie Kloss vs Queen Letizia of Spain

Seems like Karlie Kloss 2017 Academy Awards' look has been of 'inspiration' more than once, this past April...
American model Karlie Kloss wore this floor length dress by Stella McCartney first, last February, during the 2017 Academy Awards ceremony. She added a shiny diamon floral chocer and a blue ribbon on her hip to show solidarity with the American Civil Liberties Union.
Last week, the same dress but in a different colour has been worn by Queen Letizia of Spain, in The Hauge in Netherlands. The Spanish royal couple attented King Willem-Alexander birthday dinner to celebrate his 50th birthday.
Queen Letizia showed her signature wavy hairstyle and completed the dress with diamon earring and bracelt.

#TTT - Top Ten Tuesday

Here's the movies and books of the previous lists that I've watch/read during last months!
Made in Dagenham 3/5 - English humour and women ready to fight for equality. A must see for women!
- Race 3/5 - a very well done movie about Jesse Owen's victories during 1936 Summer Olympics in nazi Berlin. Jason Sudeckis also does a powerful interpretation.
- Kong: Skull Island 2½/5 - splatter to say at least, but not as bad as I thought.
- Legend 5/5 - brilliant, I don't have other words trying to describe this movie. Tom Hardy at his best!
- Why Him? 2/5 - too vulgar for my taste, but some scenes are fun.
- Allied 3/5 - great story, scenographies and costumes to die for and the protagonists are quite believable.
- Your Name. my review HERE
Hacksaw Ridge 5/5 - if you haven't already, go watch it! Now!
- Soldier Dog by Sam Angus my review HERE

👗Naomie Harris vs Jessica Hart

This colourful Chanel S/S 2017 has been worn first by Brit actress Naomie Harris first, back in February this year, while at the Film Independent Spirit Awards. She added some black lace at the bottom of the skirt and matched it with b&w shoes. Model Jessica Hart opted for a rock vibe, wearing black boots and sporting an elaborated braided hairstyle at the at the Chanel Artists Dinner, during the Tribeca Film festival last Monday,24th of April.

🎬Movies filmed in Scotland but NOT SET in Scotland

You might remember that last summer I did a special series of posts for an entire week, the Irish Week, to celebrate 1 year since I've visited the beautiful Emerald Island. One of the posts was about the fact that Ireland is often picked up from screen writers and directors as place were to shoot movies and Tv series, even if they're suppoused to be other places: best known example? Braveheart!
I enjoyed very much doing the researches for that post and since I'm currently reading "Voyager" by Diana Gabaldon and it's set in Scotland, I've decided to do the same thing with this amazing country.

Immaginary Places

Harry Potter saga (2001-2011) - The train Harry Potter takes every start of the school year from platform 9¾ to Hogwarst is a real working train (named Jacobite) and goes from Fort William to Mallaig, two cities in the Scottish Highlands.
This instantly recognisable Victorian railway viaduct at the head of Loch Shiel was first seen in Chamber of Secrets, when Ron and Harry pilot the flying Ford Anglia to Hogwarts. It's also the place where Harry encounters a Dementor for the very first time in Prisoner of Azkaban, when the Hogwarts Express stops on the bridge.
12 Scottish locations for the HP movies HERE

The Dark Knight Rises (2012) - the aereal scenes from the very start of the movie were filmed north of Inverness.
Loch Bealach Culaidh
BFG (2016) - the scenes of the "Giant's Land" were filmed on Isle of Skye, a beautiful island north from the mainland.
THE BFG
see HERE the other Scottish locations

Stardust (2007) & Snow White and the Huntsman (2012) - likewise BFG, some sequences from both movies were shot on Isle of Skye.
The Quiraing
Michelle Pfeiffer is at the beginning of Stardust. Filmed at the Quiraing on Skye.
Old man of Storr
the Old Man of Storr north of Portree on the island of Skye

Real Places
47 Ronin (2013) - Seems to me that Scotland looks more japanese than the real Japan! On Isle of Skye were shot some scenes of the journey the 47 ronin take in order to have their revenge for their lord's death.
Trottensh Ridge, Skye
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2016)- funny that Britain's most famous king got a movie filmed in Scotland, given the fact that the region has been seeking for indipendence for a while...Director Guy Ritchie has really quite a sense of humor!
Urquhart Castle on the shores of Loch Ness
Urquhart Castle on the shores of Loch Ness

Hope you enjoyed this post as much as I did while researching!

👗Shanina Shaik vs Sara Sampaio

I would have never thought to find two models wearing the same piece of clothing during Coachella, since the music festival is well renowned for the hippies themed looks its participants wear, yet...it happened!
Australian model Shanina Shaik and Portuguese model Sara Sampio wore the same House of Harlow stairy jumpstuit while attendind two differente events at the famous California desert valley.

You may remember that something similar happened last year, when Catherine, Duchess of  Cambridge and Drew Barrymore wore the same dress (click HERE).

💍Karlie Kloss vs Zendaya Coleman

This post is going to be different in comparison with the past ones, 'cause we're not going to compare same clothes, but a necklace...
ICYMI - I did something similar for the Bulgari' Serpentine necklace HERE.
Top model Karlie Kloss has been the first to wear the stunning jewerly piece, at the Academy Awards last February. She wore it as a complement for her white dress and style her hair in soft beach waves.
Actress Zendaya Coleman wore the same necklace at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards earlier in March. She hit the red carpet with a dress from her collab collection with Daya and had her hair sleek back in a low and puffy ponytail.
You can tell the two necklaces are pratically identical and yet are from two different designers: Karlie's is by Nirav Modi and Zendaya's is by Dana Rebecca Designs.

📖 Novel of the Week: Riveted by Jay Crownover

Since I finished "Rowdy" I wanted to know what would have happened to Dixie, the bartender at the Bar. She deserves her happy ending like anyone else, even more...keep on reading to know why! Riveted by Jay Crownover everybody!
29992024
Dixie Carmichael has a very special talent: she can cheer up anyone that could use some positivity. It's not that she's on a mission, but she spent a few years putting a smile on her face, being positive and feisty for her family sake, after her dad got into an accident that changed her family's routine. She's, by her own words, "everyone's cheerleader."!
But the only face she's desperate to put a smile on seems immune to her attemps.
Dashel "Church" Churchill is a former soldier and was in Rome's team, so when he finished his duty with the army, he moved to Denver and started working as the Bar' security guy. He's not indifferent to Dixie's charm and attitude, but knows things couldn't work for the two of them.

But it's Dixie the one he turns to when he gets a call from his stepfather, saying that Elma Mae (the woman who managed to keep Church's family together after his mom died) fell from the stairs and want him to go back home. Church made up that he didn't come home because of a girl and now that lie is turning against him...

Going home won't be easy for either of them because things and mentalities in Missisipi are hard to die...plus a major and more serious issue is going to hit them.

What I liked 👍

The story starts in Denver, but the main stuff happen in Church's hometown, Lowry, Mississippi. It was good to have a change of scenario this time as well as the two protagonists background: the both lost (or went near to loose) someone they cared about and it's incredible who one decided to stay and "fight" being all smiley and cute and the other set off to war zones. I also ADORED the supporting characters, Church's stepdad and Elma Mae in primis!

What I did not like 👎
The story has the same development as the other two books from this serie and likewise Marked Men, but it's always an enjoyable reading.

My vote: 7/10

👗Chiara Ferragni vs Eleonora Carisi

It was just a matter of time before having an head to head WWIB between two of the most famous Italian fashion influencers...And wearing the same dress by an  Italian designer. LOVE IT!
Chiara Ferragni wore this spectacular baby blue gowns from Ermanno Scervino S/S 2017 collection first, while attending the InStyle and Warner Bros. Golden Globe Awards after party, back in January.
She added nothing more that sparkling shoes (from her own collection) and opted for an half-up/half-down ponytail.
Eleonora Carisi wore the same dress at the 'Damiani - Un Secolo Di Eccellenza' dinner event in Milan, later this March. She added some sparkle with silver sandals and Damiani jewels. I think the black purse is too much.

Who do you think wore it better?
Chiara Ferragni or Eleonora Carisi?

UPDATE (17/05/2017) - This amazing dress has been worn again by Lara Leito during ‘Ismael’s Ghosts' premire during 2017 Cannes Film Festival opening ceremony.
UPDATE (25/05/2017) - British entrepreneur Silja Litvin also wore this Ermanno  Scervino dress for the annul amfAR gala, during Cannes Film  Festival

Get The Look: Chiara Ferragni Style

Among all fashion bloggers/digital influencers, Chiara Ferragni's looks are probably the most imitated. Latey, she has been showing her sexy side with a lot of sheer dresses (HERE & HERE) and it was just a few days ago when she uploaded this photo on her IG: this is a LNA black sheer top (or is it a bodysuit? Have no idea!).
If you'd like to copy the look, here's my suggestion: a similar bodysuit by Tally Weijl, with colorful roses instead of black shiny stars.
I know: "Florals? In spring? Groundbreking!"

She added different lenght, multiple necklaces and opted for an half-up/half-down hairstyle, perfect for summer as well!

🎬 Movie Review: Your Name. (君の名は。)

Your Name. (君の名は。) is a Japanese animated movie, premiered in 2016 and has been written and directed by Makoto Shinkai, who also wrote the novel this anime movie is based on.

Fun fact: this movie hit the theatres last year in July in the USA and in August in Japan and managed to become the highest-grossing anime movie, over comin Academy Award winning "Spirited Away".

So here's my review and thoughts about it, enjoy!

Mitsuha and Taki are completely stranger to one another and it's easy to see why: she lives in the mountain town of Itomori, has a younger sister and helps her grandmother at the temple. On the other side, he (Taki) is an high school boy, working part time in an Italian restaurant.
The two of them have never met in real life, but for some twist of fate, they swich bodies every once in a while!

After a first moment of shock and confusion, the two of them find a way to communicate through notes on their cellphones and note books. They are actually enjoying being someone else and Mitsuha tries to help Taki by setting a date with his colleague Okudera.

But these switches end all of a sudden and that's when Taki decides it's time to meet the real Mitsuha...the problem is that after when they wake up in their on body they forget each other's names.

My Opinion
I was really curious about this one and, now that I've seen it, I can't wait to read the novel as well, to see if there's a reason why these two teenagers switch bodies; likewise any anime woth of this name, there's no explaination of the events, they just happen. The story is addictive and don't even get me started on how AWESOME the soundtrack is! I've downloaded it completely!

Beside one or two scenes that added a not necessary vibe of irrealism, I think this is a great movie and I won't be surprise to see it in the final nominees list at the next Academy Awards!

📖 Novel of the Week: Soldier Dog by Sam Angus

I finally managed to read Soldier Dog by Sam Angus, a book that caught my attention just with its beautiful cover (both in the English and Italian edition). What shoul have been a good story about a boy and his dog turned out a wonderful description of a young boy's journey during the horrors of World War I and how loyalty and reliability between a human and a dog can literally save someone's life, in more than one way.
1900787118515084

England/France, 1917-18
Stanley Ryder is forced to live alone with his bossy and depressed father, after his mother died and his older brother Tom enrolled in the army, to fight in France. The only "thing" Stanley's dad is interested in is their dog Rocket, a local run competitions champ, but that as well slide away when Stan forgets to keep the dog in and, after a night, she comes back pregnant.

When the puppies arrived, Stan's father brings them to a gathering of hunters to give them away, but Stanley keeps the only male of the litter and name him Soldier...however, after several weeks, the dad takes Soldier away and that's what forced Stanley to make drastic decision: to enroll him as well in the army to go and live with Tom.
Destiny wanted Stanley to be amazing with animals (thanks his innate empathy with them) so he gets into the "canine unit", to train messangers dogs. This is war, where humans and animals lives are really in danger of death so it's of extreme importance that the dogs deliver their messages quickly and promptly.

Stanley wasn't ready to go first line in war: that will make him rethink his decisions and stumble when bad things start to happen...

What I liked 👍
It's safe to say I'm a dog person (even if I've never had one...yet) and I'm not saying this because only dog people can enjoy this book...au contraire!
I'll add this to my "book I've cried for" list because it has such an emotional end and I unsuccessfully tried to fight tears back. Dogs' well known features (such as loyalty and trustworthy) are protagonists in their own way and are very relevant as we get to know the dogs that Stanley ends up working with.
What I did not like 👎
The first part is lacking in clearness of the descriptions, I had to re read a few lines more than once to understand what was going on

As soon as the story starts to define itself, the novel takes a whole new path and I loved it! I couldn't put it down, not even if I wanted to. The boy-dog relationship is heart melting and war is surely no place for sentimentalisms.

My vote: 9/10

👗Michelle Monaghan vs Ruth Wilson

And after 5 days European designers' gowns, it was about time to have an American based designer; and the lucky one is...Michael Kors!
Michelle Monaghan wore this amazing blue shirt & skirt combo first, while attending at the Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Entertainment Breakfast last October. To give the look a pop of "colour" she wore a white pointy peter pan collar as well as white pumps. Barely there make up and flawless hair completed the look.
Ruth Wilson wore the same outfit, but skipped the white accessories and, instead, opted for a black belt and matched black sandals while attending the Olivier Awards nominations celebrations, last week, in London.

I personally love this assamblement (the skirt in particulat) and I think Michelle Monaghan did a fantastic job and make it stand out!
