As I
recently finished reading “Cinder” by Marissa Meyer, I came across with this
new literary trend: fairytale retellings... which is basically taking one famous classic kids fairytale and make it modern/distopian while keeping the
bases.
In movies, they call it a “reboot”.

If you
think, that isn’t something new:
- first it was Marvel/DC Comics superheros who got their own new stories with movies,
- then (strictly books speaking) TV series 'Once Upon A Time' is doing the same thing since 2011, and even before that Alex Flinn wrote his nowdays version of 'Beauty and
the Beast' that ,
- Seth Grahame-Smith did the same thing with "Pride and Prejudice" and made the story all about a zombie apocalypse.
Well, I dagged a little and if you’re interested in retellings, here’s my movie & books discoveries!
The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer (books)
What I thought were self ending retellings of Cinderella and other famous princesses' stories happend to be a saga incorporating all of them! We start off with a cyborg Cinderella (Cinder), who works as a mechanic in New Beijing. In the following books, we'll me Scarlet (whom I belive is Red Riding Hood), Cress (Rapunzel) and Winter (Snow White).
Can't wait to read these and see how the author 'restyled' them!
Tales of the Kingdom by Sarah Pinborough (books)
As opposed to Lunar Chronicles, these books are self conclusive reboots novels and their plus add is that they're beautifully illustrated.

As far as I'm concerned, I loved 'Mirror,Mirror' and 'Hook'...they're hilarious and Lily Collins and Julia Roberts are stunning! 'Beastly'....the book is better. I have mixed fellings about 'Maleficent' and I wish they had never bother doing 'The Brothers Grimm', but I have to admit that make up and costumes are brilliant!
I never saw the others, and I think I'll never going to watch 'Hansel and Gretel get baked', which is only one thing to me: pointless.
