Nearly the same topic has been used in quite a few movies; protagonists fighting against diseases and illness decides to make the best of the short time they have left, doing things they thought they never would be able to do. Sometimes they started this journey alone but, eventually, they find someone to share their troubles and thoughts with.
This kind of movie could strike as 2 hours of complete sadness BUT not everyone is like that.

MOVIES
The Bucket List (2007)
With an unlikely duo like Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, this movie is a perfect example of not letting the disease control your life and that it's never too late to change your opinion and beliefs. 
P.S I Love You (2007)
Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler in the movie adaptation of Cecelia Ahearn's novel is a different kind of bucket list: Gerry wants her wife to start anew after his death and makes a list of things she must try.
BOOKS
1. Tessa is a teenage girl with leukemia and took the brave decision to stop treatments and live what's left of her life following the list of things to do before she dies.

2. When Brett's mother suddenly dies, the only thing she left to her is a letter: before Brett takes control of the family's company, she has to complete the childhood list she wrote when she was younger.
3. Liv Jenkins's "Before 30th birthday" bucket list is complete...the only thing she has to do is actually start doing those things...but when she dies, it's her five best friends task to do everything Liv has been unable to experience.
