Monuments Men (2014) by George Clooney. With George ClooneyMatt DamonBill MurrayJohn GoodmanJean DujardinCate Blanchett and Hugh Bonneville.

Based upon the Robert M. Edsel's novel "The Monuments Men: Allied heroes, Nazi Thieves and the greatest treasure hunt in History"

I heard/read/saw a lot about this movie, it has a stellar cast (most of them are Accademy Award winners) and since I'm interested also in arts I went to the movie theatre with my boyfriend as our Valentine's Day date.

So here's the story (NO SPOILER at all!):

1944
Frank Stokes (George Clooney) is in charge of a buch of art's experts with the task of going in Europe and save objects of art that the Nazis are collecting for Hitler, who wants to build in his hometown the "Hitler Museum", full of art treasure from France, Belgium and Italy.
So Stokes recruits his longtime friend James Granger (Matt Damon) and leave for England, where the rest of the team is meanwhile training in a military camp.

The rest of the team is made of the NYC's architects (Bill Murray and Bob Balaban), and American sculptor (Jhon Goodman), a French gallery director (Jean Dujardin), an English art expert ( Hugh Bonneville - for the Downton Abbey's fan Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham) and a German born/American naturalized translator (Dimitri Leonidas).

While Granger is sent in  France to meet with an old friend, who has information of where the paintings and sculptures might be, the rest of the team chases the Nazis, who are retreating from France, bringing with them all the art works.

I liked this movie, it was a mix from art and history lectures and the surroundings were amazing.
Yet I think it misses something, maybe I would have liked a few more dialogues between the supporting characters...It's still a good movie...one of the first scene, with Leonardo da Vinci's "Last Supper" almost destroyed by bombing, made me want to yell "For God's sake, save it!!!"
