15 Random Phrases from Book's I've read

exclamation mark by Leo Reynolds, via Flickr
By now you'd probabily understood that I'm really a book worm. Not a big secret anyway! So here are some funny/ispirational phrases from the novels I've read so far... Only one thing: since I've read the novels in italian, the phrases will be a translation from it and no the exact phrases from the original novel.

So here they are :

- "Shut up! You're an idiot!"
- "That's precisely what my wife said, my lord..."
(The Three Musketeers - Alexandre Dumas)

-"They said the house was haunted!"
-"I challenge you to find one house in Cornwall that's NOT haunted!"
(The Secret Garden - Kate Morton)

"No one likes keeping a secret. The only reason to have secrets is the pleasure to tell everyone about them"
(The Secret Garden - Kate Morton)

Today's Obsession: Tassels Bracelets

A few years ago, Gucci made a lovely tassels shaped keychain. It was made of leather with bamboo inserts....very chic, even if I don't approve the use of non ecological leather. Anyway, tassels are very versatile...In fact, you can wear them with an hippie/hipster look, but they can be worn with elegant outifts too!

Here some pics with different style of tassels bracelets, enjoy!

15 Random Facts about Actors/Actresses, Movies and Sport Wolrd

Typography Print Question Mark Retro poster por sillyretroprints, zł59,00I've been collection random wierd/funny facts about (pretty much) everything for a while now, so I've decided to take the 15 of them with the "WOW factor" and put them together.

These are about actresses, sports and movies...
  • In the room number 6 of CNN6 Cinema Centre in Atlanta, Gone with the Wind is projected twince a day (everyday) since 1939, year of its first release.
  • Elizabeth "Liz" Taylor once in 1974 said "I will never divorce from Richard Burton" (She got married 8 times and divorced twice from Burton)
  • Nadia Comăneci (Romanian gymnast) is still nowdays the only athlete that obtained a perfect 10 in an Olympic competition. She was only 15 when she score this result at Summer Olympic Games in Montreal, 1976

  • The first Olympic Games in Italy were the Winter edition in 1956 in Cortina d'Ampezzo. The first (and until now the only one) Summer edition were in 1960 in Rome.
  • Until 1992 professional NBA players couldn't partecipate to the Olympic Games. Then rules changed and U.S.A "created" the famous Dream Team
  • Audrey Hepburn was born in Belgium, but after World War II she moved to England (where she obtained citizenship). Her first movie as leading actress is "Roman Holiday" and she won the Accademy Award for that perform in 1954. In 1988 she became ambassador for UNICEF and received a 1$ check as symbolic salary.

12 hours in Lugano, Switzerland

My twin sister is doing a 6 months internship in Lugano, Switzerland, she's working very hard and in the meantime she's studying for her last University exams and I couldn't be more proud of her...Anyway, the side effect of this internship is that I see her only on the week end (since she came back home on late Friday night, the week end is limited to Saturdays and Sunday mornings) so I decided to go visit her last Wednesday! I took the train from Verona to Milan and from there changed it for Lugano.

Since I've never been in Switzerland I didn't know what to expect and my sister had to work during the day so I had to discover the town by myself. It was a beautiful sunny day, I took a walk along the lake and then did some window shopping. Switzerland is famous for chocolate, cheese, watches and banks...

Since I had no interest in visiting banks (as I'm a University student, I'm always broke!) I decided to try some kinds of chocolate...Best idea EVER!!!! God the where soooo yummy!

All the photos in this post have been made by my sister, so thank you V.!

Christmas' Markets in Bolzano, Italy

Last week my friends and I took a "one-day" trip...destination? Bozen's Christmas Markets!!
Every year from the last week of November 'till December 23rd, Piazza Walter hosts the famous Christmas' Markets where you can find holiday decorations for your house and Christmas tree along with the typical food specialities : apple strudel, brezen and all Trentino Alto Adige's goodies!!

We arrived in Bozen around 10am and started our day with hot cocoa and biscuits...then we began the tour of the market, which could seem a short visit, but it's exactly the opposite.
Around 2pm we had lunch and then again a full immersion in stalls.

Here some pics of our wonderful day!!

Tribute to Nelson Mandela

Image: Nelson MandelaI sadly heard about Mandela's death this morning. The great South African activist against apartheid died yesterday in Johannesburg after a long battle against lung infection. After 3 months in hospital in September he was sent home, where he received medical care as well as the love of his family and friends.

I hope everyone knows about Mandela's work and sacrifice for ending the Apartheid, so I'm not going to re-write all his life. I'm going to post some of his most famous quotes and movies/book instead, where you can find his eternal spirit .

Quotes

-"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world"
- "It always seems impossible until it's done"
- May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears"
-"I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it"

From the movie "Invictus" , my favourite quote :

"I was thinking how you spend 30 years in a tiny cell, and come out ready to forgive the ones who put you in there."

Related book and movies are:
Long walk to freedom; The autobiography of Nelson Mandela by Nelson Mandela
Sundowners by Lesley Lokko
- "Goodbye Bafana" (2007) by Bille August. With Joseph Fiennes, Dennis Haysbert and Diane Kruger
- "Invictus" (2009) by Clint Eastwood.  With Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon

Next year there will be in theatres the movie based on Mandela's autobiography starring Naomie Harris (as Winnie Mandela) and Idris Elba (as Nelson Mandela)

My prayers go to his beloved ones, remembering that he has done so much for the world and thanking him for that.

Today's Obsession : Natalie Portman's Red Carpet Style

Natalie Portman is one of my favourite actresses since I saw her in "Star Wars" episode I!
She's so elengant and has innate class. Beside her beauty she's also a very talented actress (and the Oscar for "Black Swan" in 2010 proves it!) and an activist for humanitarian causes like helping orphans, poor countries providing them with food and water and animals. In fact, she's vegan...when she was pregnant of her first child Aleph she decided to go back vegetarian because she wanted to eat cookies and cakes!

She absolutely is a positive role model in real life and also in movie, since she choose only characters that are strong and indipendent women (V for Vendetta, just to name one!)

Here's my photo gallery of her best red carpet looks, enjoy!

It's 1958 and the protagonist of this French comedy is Rose. She's a small town girl with great ambition and the terrific ability of typing very fast with only two fingers. Her father is the local drugstore owner and wants Rose to be the salesgirl, but he doesn't know that meanwhile Rose has taken a few interviews for secretary jobs, for which she's terrible at.

If she wants the job, she has to compete. But after losing her first match, Monsieur Échard decides to train Rose himself and make her moved in his own home.

Today's Obsession : Ear cuffs

Ear cuffs are not just simple earrings and I think we all noticed it! This year MET gala theme was "Punk in Fahion" and actresses and models showed their punk side adding to their look this mix between an earring and a chain.

Novel Of The Week - Fallen by Lauren Kate

I was on holiday when I saw the paper campaign of Fallen by Lauren Kate two years ago and, since there was just the title and the name of the author, the only thing I could judge this book for was its cover…in some ways it intrigued me, so when I came back home I decided to read it.

Here’s the plot :

7 movies for Christmas

Christmas is only 7 weeks away and what better way to get into the mood than 7 "Christmas themed" movies? Nothing!
So here's my list... Don't worry, I didn't choose "Home Alone" with Macaulay Culkin. I trust it will be on air December 24th or 25th...
  1. Jack Frost (1998) by Troy Miller with Michael Keaton and Kelly Preston. Personally, this is my favourite...It's a bit old, but I love the father-son hockey scene...I always end up crying!!!
  2. Love Actually (2003) by Richard Curtis with Hugh GrantColin FirthAlan RickmanBill NighyKeira Knightley and Rowan Atkinson.
  3. The Family Man (2000) by Brett Ratner with Nicolas Cage and Téa Leoni
  4. Four Christmases (2008) by Seth Gordon with Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon
Love actually and Four Christmases are for those who wants to laugh and have a look on how other people react to festivities. The family man is, as contrary, the answer to the classical question "What if...?" I think that (along with Con Air), this is my favourite Nicolas Cage's movie.

The Family Man Movie PosterExtra Large Movie Poster Image for Four Christmases

Then we have the animated movies :
  1. Rise of the Guardians (2012) animation movie by Peter Ramsey, based upon William Joyce's novels....Actually, it has NOTHING to do with Christmas, in fact it is set during Easter, BUT Santa Klaus is one of the protagonist and it's still a beautiful story of helping others and believing in good.
  2. The Polar Express (2004) animation movie by Robert Zemeckis with Tom Hank's voice
  3. Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) animation movie by Henry Selick. It's a forced choise, it's equally wierd, genius and a bit disturbing...even if you've already seen it more than one.

Hope you enjoyed the list and let the Christmas season begin!!

Today's Obsession : Pixie Cut

It all started with Halle Barry and Agyness Deyn (my favourite model!!!) rocking the famous short hair cut known as “pixie cut”…Then it became a trend and actresses and model started cutting their hair (sometimes only for script requirements like Anne Hathaway)…. Some of them had it bon-ton and some others like Miley Cyrus and Agyness Deyn more rock'&'roll!
Last victim? The gorgeous Jennifer Lawrence. Here’s some “before-after” cut, who do you think is better with short hair? I personally love this hair cut so bad!

#FreeTheArctic30

Back to last September, 18th,  a ship of 30 Greenpeace's activist peacefully protested against Gazprom's company for drilling for oil in the Artic area. They only tried to make our world a better place to live and for that are in prison from almoust two months.

I'll gave you some link (from the italian's office and from the international one) for informations on how help these innocente people.  Please take 5 minutes of your time to read them and give an hand!
